A Home Of Their Own is a documentary on the role of the Champaign-Urbana African-American played in housing and supporting African-American students during the 1930s through 1950s, when campus housing, eateries, and other facilities were segregated.
African-American students were at the University, but not of the University, and the local African-American community provided the community, support, and hospitality the University refused to provide. This important documentary recounts a crucial story in the history of the University and raises important questions about the institution's role in racial oppression.
